Meet Your Trainer

Hi there! I’m Melody,

Founder of ‘The Horse Barber Brand’.

Since 2012 I have been professionally clipping horses and in this time I have the opportunity to interact with hundreds, if not thousands of horses and people and helped solve their problems when it comes to horse clipping. It is astounding how many horses have been subject to bad clipping practices and this got me thinking, ‘how can I help these horses?’.

I now have a wealth of experience and I decided some time ago to put together the first of its kind online horse clipping course, a resource where I can help kickstart peoples clipping journey and share information with them that has taken me YEARS to obtain, fast-tracking them into a new skillset or expanding on their existing ones .

I believe that every horse should have the best clipping experience and even owner should have access to the very best clipping guidance. In this day and age there should be no reason a horse suffers at the hands of an inexperience clipper. Unfortunately there has been a huge gap in clipping education until the internet has opened new doors and opportunities for learning, with many horses (and owners) left traumatised after bad clipping experiences. Horse owners were limited in their options before. This is where my course can help you! Limited to ten places, The Budding Horse Barber Course will be a catalyst in your horse clipping journey of learning!

I look forward to hearing from you and being part of your clipping journey

– Melody

Will I be able to clip my own horse after doing this course?
Clipping horses is a craft that can take many months and even years to build on, so do be prepared for long term learning- but with Melody’s guidance and education, you will be fast tracking on your journey to success and will be clipping this season!

Every attendee with be armoured with the tools to approach clipping and some people will find it easier than others. Mastering clipping practically Is a long term process and one that requires commitment so do be prepared to put the hours in after this theory training. Every horse is different and each person has a different rate of learning so for some people the answer will be yes!

You will have the tools to begin , or enhance your clipping technique and move forward with the confidence that you are using the correct equipment to suit both you & your horse.

I can already clip my own horse , but I want to clip horses as a business in the future , will I be able to do this?

In the coming months I will be adding the  Clipping For Business modules, full of business building information & downloadable resources, which will be your go to guide if you wish to set up your own horse clipping business. To be notified, add your email to our mailing list!   This course however is suitable equally for people that are wanting to take the next step and offer clipping as a business too!

How long do I have access to the course for?

All course materials including learning videos, PDF downloads, activities and assignments will be available both during and after you have completed the course! The closed group will be archived after the course, however you will still be able to view it all afterwards.

Course content and any assignments must be completed during the course for the Certificate Of Completion to be issued.

I’m not in the United Kingdom, can I still do the course?

Absolutely! We have people all across the world that learn with us, not just in the UK.  As well as experiencing international equestrian clipping, Melody is able to recommend equivalent equipment & suppliers, particularly in North America, where she has strong contacts with reliable suppliers in industry.

Melody deals with only the very best in the business when it comes to clippers & blades and no matter where you are in the world, you can benefit from her vast knowledge and expertise.

Will I get a certificate after completing a course?

redwings horse sanctuary

Why Redwings?

When I was just 7 years old  (in the early 1990’s ) and before I had ever had a pony of my own, my mother signed up to the ‘sponsor a pony’ scheme and surprised me with the gift of ‘Ben’ my sponsored pony! I would recieve monthly updates in the post and I would always look forward to the photos arriving! Although I never met Ben in person, he brought me a lot of happiness as a child and has been a part of The Horse Barber journey.

Now, as an adult, to be able to give back to the charity that do so much good, and for a wonderful cause, is the very least I can do to thank them.

Wow, what a fantastic online course. Melody is so passionate about her chosen career, full of enthusiasm in sharing her knowledge whether you are a professional groomer or complete novice. Loved the personal touch, live interaction and concise, easy to follow content. Saying all of that, I think the best part of the course was that it was fun. Fun = a great way to learn for me. Many thanks Melody, Julia Preston

I had a brilliant first one to one session with the one and only amazingly talented and seriously lovely Melody Hames
I am so grateful and this is just the start of our journey I’ve made a friend and mentor for life in Melody and having the day spent with my best boy who was an absolute superstar bonding was wonderful

Rachel speaking about her beautiful but anxious dressage mare;

“When I bought her it was one question (about clipping) I didn’t ask !! Only to be told later “it’s a vet job !!!!” . A few confidence and technique build-up training sessions with Melody The Horse Barber, lots of patience and mutual trust and I can do her solo now”

- Rachel Wall, Lancashire

Melody used my mare for some case study work on clipping nervous horses. The time she spent with her has made me more aware of not restricting her too much at her head. Whether that is walking from the field to riding. My mare is so much better and I actually achieved a full clip with her a few weeks ago.

- Jo Laycock, Lancashire

Melody is not only good at her job she is knowledgeable on different horse coats,eg PPID horses. Nothing is to much trouble for her and if you have any questions or uncertainties Melody will happily chat with you about them.

- Jillian Parkinson, Mottram Tameside

Melody came to my boys and clipped them. I decided after to have a go myself. Was on hand to give advice and tips. Especially a clean coat. But I think her talent is amazing. Her war horse clip that she did in remembrance for all veterans was truly beautiful. Melody is defo the best horse barber and one of a kind.
