š„³ Firstly, Thank You For Choosing Me For Your Horses' Next Clip!
I am grateful to meet and work with every single horse and you can rest assured your horse will be in great hands for their next clip! Below I have put together a few pointers to help prepare for success and answer some frequently asked questions that I often receive immediately after people have booked their horse in. If anything is missing, please don’t hesitate to ask and can add it to this page for others too! There is no such thing as a stupid question.
š To enhance your horses hair cut please see the following points;
Please prepare rugs for after the clip – we will be finishing the clip with a hot sponge down, so hot water, a clean bucket and a sponge will be required.
Please ensure the space we are in is clean and tidy, if thatās a stable, please muck out before hand.
š If there is no access to electricity please let me know before hand. For some clips having electricity will be essential.
Itās totally fine for your horse to have a haynet while (s)he is being clipped. No hard feed please.
ā Ā Please donāt administer any sedation before hand unless we have discussed this prior to clip day.
If building work is scheduled at you yard, (powertools/drills/machinary) please message to rearrange for a quieter day.
š A clean, dry coat is essential. Clippers and my arm muscles canāt clip wet muddy coats and dirty/greasy coats damage blades, which can incur a Ā£10 fee or even a decision not to proceed with the clipping appointment.
The best way to prepare? A hot wash is recommended for pre-clip preparation – ideally done the day before. It can be as simple as boiling a couple of kettles and mixing with cool water and using a sponge. The cleaner the horse, the better the finish. (Please don’t apply oil or use oily products when shampooing). Brushing daily in the week leading up to clipping day is also a very effective method when done thoroughly.Ā
š You do not need to test your horse or put clippers near them, I will take care of it all for you
šPlease ensure that you have sent me the full and correct stable yard address and postcode. Even if I have visited you prior, it helps me plan my routes effectively.Ā
šø As part of The Horse Barber brand, I sometimes create online tutorials and share clipping tips for people who want to learn across social media. Each horse has something different to offer. If you would prefer that I don’t photograph or record please let me know and I shall ensure your horse stays offline.
ā ļø Ā Please note, when it comes to clipping legs, most of the time I can foresee if we are going to be successful, however I always explain the worse case scenario and this is that we may have to schedule a vet to come and sedate the horse to complete the leg clipping. This will be charged separately for a second visit and the full fee will be applicable UNLESS I specify otherwise. Sometimes we will establish this before attempting to clip on the first visit, Ā I just ask for Ā£10 to cover the travel over to you and for me to assess and advise you of the best possible course of action.
I will not charge you more than this, if I do not clip the horse. If I can achieve a clip there will be a fee.
šµ I don’t take deposits, all I ask is for a minimum of 24 hours notice if you have to cancel your appointment. Please note I will always do my best however an alternative may not be available for quite some time during the busy clipping season. Also -Cash Is King! However I do have online facilities for those that can only transfer.Ā
Lastly, if you have any worries or anxieties , please don’t panic! The clipping process will always be calm and positive, never stressful.
